According to a release that landed in my inbox this morning…

“The Elk Mountains Grand Traverse turned into the 2nd Elk Mountains Grand Reverse due to high winds, snow and severe wind chill.”

Oh you clever press release writers!

Anyway, this year the notoriously epic ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen turned into an out-and-back, from Crested Butte and back again. It still sounds like a heinous 28-mile journey:  “Racers skied over Crested Butte Mountain resort, up Brush Creek to the Friends Hut, around Pearl Basin , back down Brush Creek to The Farris Creek bike trail, then back to Mount Crested Butte for the finish.”
